Dr. Dawid Duvenhage
Technical Director Dr. Dawid Duvenhage is a recognized industry veteran who brings to Kuthule an extensive international background in energy, petrochemicals, and synfuels production. Before joining Kuthule, he served as Research Specialist - Pilot Operations at Sundrop Fuels, a bio-reforming company, where he spearheaded the day to day pilot plant testing program, data extraction & evaluation for biomass conversion and syngas cleanup. Prior to joining Sundrop Fuels, Dr. Duvenhage held the positions of Director - Catalysis and Catalyst Commercialization Lead at Rentech, a natural gas and biomass conversion to alternative fuels company, being responsible for catalyst development, scale-up, and commercialization. Dr. Duvenhage also co-developed and scaled-up a low temperature thermal catalytic spent tire conversion process for SP Reclamation, a Houston based startup. Over the course of 13 years, Dr. Duvenhage held a number of research and management positions within the Sasol Group of Companies. He directed, as Applied Research Manager, development and continuous improvement efforts for Sasol Technology’s coal-to-liquids initiatives at Sasol II and Sasol III located in Secunda, South Africa. During 1998 he successfully led a support team to set-up and verify the Process Guarantee and Start-up Test Runs to arguably the world’s largest (140,000 barrel per day) “live” reactor technology conversion project as executed by Sastech Engineering Division in Secunda. Before that he served as Project Leader for Low Temperature Fixed Bed Catalyst Development, Scale-up, Implementation, and Support at Sasol I in Sasolburg, South Africa. Dr. Duvenhage holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Chemistry from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The main focus of his studies is heterogeneous catalysis. His academic research covers industrial catalyst deactivation, catalyst- formulation / characterization / testing, pretreatment, bimetallic and organometallic systems, as well as catalyst promotion. Dr. Duvenhage also has a strong background in Process Data Analytics, Process Technology Audits, Test Run Planning & Execution, Technology Management, Computer Programming, and Intellectual Property. |
